Jim Miller has enjoyed a very successful 30 year career in coaching and administration of Division I collegiate athletics programs. Most recently, he served 14 years as the Director of Athletics at the University of Richmond. In that role he oversaw the development and implementation of two strategic plans and hired 22 head coaches in addition to leading multi-million dollar fundraising effort that brought Richmond football back onto campus and into a new stadium for the first time in decades.
Jim also served at NC State University for 10 years, ultimately assuming the role of Deputy Director of Athletics.
Early in his career Jim worked as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Northwestern State University and Virginia Military Institute, before earning his law degree from the College of William & Mary. Jim practiced corporate law and was president of a sports marketing firm before beginning his career in college athletics administration.
Since leaving the University of Richmond in 2014, he has served as a consultant for the Atlantic10 Conference and conducted athletic program reviews for Independent Preparatory Schools.
A two sport athlete as an undergraduate at Old Dominion University, Jim also earned his master’s degree in Education from ODU, concentrating in Athletic Administration. Today, he resides with his wife, Celia, in Richmond, VA
